What is Marriage?
“The matrimonial covenant, by which a man and a woman establish between themselves a partnership of the whole of life, is by its nature ordered toward the good of the spouses and the procreation and education of offspring; this covenant between baptized persons has been raised by Christ the Lord to the dignity of a sacrament.” (Catechism of the Catholic Church 1601)
Four Characteristics of Married Love
Free
It is also, and above all, an act of the free will
Full
It is a love which is total—that very special form of personal friendship in which husband and wife generously share everything
Faithful
Married love is also faithful and exclusive of all other, and this until death.
Fruitful
It is not confined wholly to the loving interchange of husband and wife; it also contrives to go beyond this to bring new life into being
Newly Engaged?
If you are a member of our faith community and would like to receive information for planning a wedding at Holy Cross, please call the parish office. We are available to answer questions and work out the details of preparing for your wedding day.
Marriage Convalidation
Are you already married civilly or outside the Church? In order for the Church to recognize your marriage as valid, you will need to prepare for a convalidation ceremony. A convalidation is needed when one or two baptized Catholics enter a marriage that is invalid and the couple now wishes to make the marriage valid. Because every couple’s situation is unique, contact our parish office and talk to one of our priests on how we can help you.
