2025 Posadas

A celebration blending faith and community.

La Posadas (Spanish for “the inns”)

The celebration, Posadas is a festive, nine-night Christmas tradition beginning the 16th to the 24th, of December in Mexico and Latin America, serving as a devout reminder of the Nativity story.

The reenactment of Mary and Joseph’s search for lodging, involves nightly processions with (vilancicos –Christmas Carols), asking for (“posada”- lodging) and ending with parties, food, and piñatas to symbolize their welcoming of the Christ Child.

Each night ends with a party at a host’s home with traditional food (like tamales, pozole), warm drinks, music, and breaking piñatas. The seven-pointed piñata represents overcoming sin, and the sweets/fruits symbolize heavenly rewards.

Las Posadas is a coming together to enrich community spirit and cultural exchange as neighbors gather to welcome the coming of our Lord, Jesus.
